Thornton le Dale to Home

The return journey from Thornton-Le-Dale took some grand roads and then a few miles of forestry roads (unpaved) then on joining the black top road I snapped my clutch cable! Not to worry with no clutch changing we got back to the unit with only one close call.

A nice summer day for a spin, having just got the 1981 BMW R100 ready for the road Johno and I take it for some shake down miles. We made our way to Mathewson's auction house in Thornton-Le Dale for a look round some classic cars.

Got camping at last, first time this year so thought I'd do a vid of setting up my tent. After a jovial night in the pub I got my camera out again so for a bit of daft put what I took on the end of video please excuse my repeating myself I was four sheets to the wind. :-D

The tips on tappets are obviously hardened case hardened it isn't that deep you are very quickly into softer material ...

I have just found Lunmad's channel, helping a friend restore his 69 Bonnie T120 and searching for information. I was so happy to stumble across this wealth of knowledge, then so devastated to learn of his passing 2 years ago. Your channel did give me the information I was searching for, to help my Friend with his bike. I will ride my 58 Norton Nomad, and he on his "younger" Bonnie, and at the end of the day, a toast of mead to John. Ride In Peace Sir John.

12:50 am France. So sorry for this news only just learnt. I used this page to do my clutch in 2015, so I was glad to find it again for more advice. Brilliant explanations. I'm a novice mechanic and it still works after following John's video. I will continue with his everlasting advice! Thank you and RIP John!

He put the washers on in the wrong order. There was a change in 68 or 68 in the way the rocker arm got oil. With the new method you needed the thackery on the outside and the flat washer/shin against the rocker arm. Otherwise it could restrict the flow of oil. There was a Triumph service bulletin that went out about this because the manuals all showed it incorrectly. In order to flip those two around, you'll need the larger inner diameter washer for all 4. The book has 3 larger diameter then one smaller diameter washer for the last one (on the acorn nut side) you need to get 2 more of the larger ID washers to properly make the change.

Did Lunmad ever do a video explaining how to make that spring tool? Holding that spring closed with your fingers trying to feed the cable into the slide is such a pain the butt. I feel like someone could make some money producing that tool.

Thanks mate, it’s been about 45 years since I’ve adjusted tappets. I’m working on a 1971 Tiger 750. All I need to do is find the correct gaps for that model. I think exh is 8 thou & inlet is 4 or 6. But I’ll look it up before going ahead with full confidence thanks to this video. I like the accent too. From an Australian.

As a Triumph fan I am very sad to hear that John passed away. I learned so much from his video,s. I loved the way he presented his video,s in a very easy and understandeble way, that even a not mechanic as I am can understand it, just do it as John does, and you will succeed. Rest in peace, John and I hope that Jesus drives a Triumph so you can help him when stands at the side of a road

I know im a year late on this but i would just like to say thank you to John for everything I learned watching his videos. My T120 wouldnt be the awesome machine it is today if it wasnt for him. I have a feeling hes somewhere out there in the great beyond on a trumpet that he built from the crank up on a road that never ends and a tank that never runs dry. God speed John
